Mount Vernon!!

Here we are at George Washington's beloved home. It was beautiful. This view above is overlooking the back of the house over the Potomac. The guide said that they have preserved the view as much as possible so that it is the same view George would have looked at.
(of course minus our faces, hehe)

Matt is going for an outing with the Washington's doesnt he fit right in?

The house was beatiful, inside the rooms were very colorful and decorated. George Washington was given this house from an uncle?? if I remember correctly and he did about 3-4 additions to the home. It is constructed of wood that he made to look like stone.

The main house was attached to the servants quarters and the kitchen. The kitchen was separated from the main house for fear of fire.
This is the back of the house overlooking the potomac.
We learned that George Washington's dream was farming and he wanted to create a self sustaining plantation. He seemed to be a humble man and wanted to be remembered as a General, rather than a president. His tomb is on the grounds next to Martha.
Also interesting to note, we watched a monologue while there, portrayed by George's best friend and also a physician, who went throught the final scenes of George's life. I did not know that George Washington died from what they called Quincy at the time, aka epiglottitis. Now only known as a childhood diseasee. And they also bled him as treatment about 4-5 pints of blood to try and heal him... that would have been over half of his blood!

We biked to Mount Vernon from downtown Alexandria, VA. There was a beautiful bike path about a 9 mile ride one way to Mount vernon. The path went through the woods, along the river and next to some historic neighborhoods. It was a great day!
